When it comes to metal masking, there are a range of different products to choose from. Depending on the project you are working on, you may require either a temporary or permanent masking product. But how do these differ, and which one should you go for?

Temporary masking products often include masking tapes, dots and lacquers. This is because once they have been used for a specific project, they are removed and cannot be used again. For example, each project would require the use of a new piece of masking tape in order to get the most accurate result.

Temporary metal masking products offer great versatility because they can be used for a variety of different projects. Although, they are not suited for larger-scale projects that need a bespoke masking solution. Temporary products also generate more wastage due to being disposed of immediately after usage.

Permanent electroplating masking products are often custom-made solutions for projects that require regular masking attention. These can include pull plugs, tapered plugs and caps that are usually made of silicone and rubber.

Because permanent metal masking solutions are custom-made, they can often be more expensive to product. However, they can be re-used multiple times for the same project, meaning they are less wasteful. Plus, you get a great return on investment. If you operate a large production facility that will require the same metal masking part consistently, then a permanent option is the best choice.

Ultimately, a temporary or permanent masking product will depend on the scale of your project. Generally, smaller projects are well suited to temporary products, whereas larger projects will benefit from a permanent product.

Permanent Masking Products
